Counselling and Psychosocial Support
The effect of violence, abuse and torture pose a risk to survivor’s physical, mental health and in general the quality of their life. The survivors always face considerable challenges in obtaining support. Survivors are received at SDI through self referral, partner organizations and institutions where we provide safe and protective space for holistic healing. At SDI we listen, believe and support survivors of all gender regardless of age, race, nationality and ethnic background. We therapeutically interact with the survivors and help them achieve healing. We offer individual, couple and group trauma counselling, play therapy for children under the age of ten years, guidance and counselling for adolescence within a period of three months either at our SDI offices or at a recommended safe place.
Training and capacity building
We train and provide community leaders with operational guidelines on basic holistic community based counselling and psychosocial support. We train them in group counselling group, child abuse and child protection so as to support survivors and their families after reintegration at the community level. The training and capacity building reduces the risk of exposure to violence, abuse and torture since they act as mediators within the community.
Reintegration and follow up
With the help of community leaders and our partners, we plan and initiate the integration process of the survivors back to their families and communities. The process is thoroughly reviewed and evaluated before the actual reintegration is done. After reintegration, we conduct survivor’s follow up to ascertain the integration was a success.
Community and School Outreach
Through our school and community outreach program, we offer individual psychological first aid to survivors and refer them for further counselling at our SDI office or other partner organization and institution.
Self Reliance Counselling and Coaching
In addition to the psychological counselling, we offer self reliance counselling and coaching to men and women who are economically dependent to their partners. We acknowledge that stress, loss/lack of income can exacerbate the risk of violence. We assist survivors to explore and identify their potential so as to prevent them from experiencing violence.
Partnership and collaboration
We actively explore and seek out partnership and collaboration with CBOs, NGOs, Religious institutions, community leaders and county government to achieve the mutual objectives and goals that we share. This also helps in expanding our knowledge and mission so as to reach out to a broader audience in the community. We partner and collaborate with partners for referrals, reintegration, networking, sustainability, training and capacity building as well as community and school outreach.
